Nicky Roland - Mile High Funk

In the realm of music, some creations transcend mere artistic expression; they become powerful narratives, carrying with them stories that resonate beyond the notes and rhythms. My latest single, "Mile High Funk," stands as a testament to this notion, a reminder that intertwines the threads of music history, personal loss, and a commitment to social causes.

At its core, "Mile High Funk" is a deeply personal project, a musical reminiscence crafted with the purpose of honoring the memory of Travis "Storm" Edwards, a luminary figure in the early Drum and Bass/Jungle scene. Edwards, a driving force behind the Satin Storm collective, left an indelible mark on the genre with iconic tracks like "See The Light" and "Think I'm Going Out of My Head." His influence extended beyond the beats, shaping the sonic landscape, and is cited as a huge influence by Goldie himself.

The single is more than just a nostalgic journey into the past. It's a dedication to both Travis and Gregory Coleman, the drummer of The Winstons. Coleman's Amen Break, extracted from "Amen Brother," remains the most sampled piece of music in history, shaping the sounds of early hip hop, Jungle, and Drum and Bass. Tragically, Coleman passed away homeless, his contribution to music unrecognized during his lifetime.

In the face of these musical legacies and the painful realities of dementia and homelessness, I wanted "Mile High Funk" to serves as a rallying cry for awareness and action. With 100% of the proceeds dedicated to charities supporting dementia and homelessness, this single is a beacon of hope, a call to arms for music enthusiasts to contribute to causes that transcend the boundaries of sound.

In a world often inundated with ephemeral tunes, "Mile High Funk" is a reminder of the enduring impact of music and the responsibility we bear toward those who have shaped its course. Support this endeavor, and let the echoes of "Mile High Funk" resonate not just in our ears but in the hearts of those whose stories it seeks to tell.
